What is most atmospheric city you've ever been in?

That you feel leaden down by history, maybe spirits?

I don't have especially great experience, but London kills me, especially down by the river, particularly around Limehouse etc. Conrad put it so exquisitively:

Probably Antigua Guatemala, and San Andrés in El Salvador. I have to say Nassau in the Bahamas has its own cool vibe too. I love Miami and Las Vegas, but those are different types of atmospheres. Puerto Vallarta in México is another one I liked.

Saint Petersburg - I walked to the Hermitage every day during two study abroad trips; thought of Dostoevsky.

Probably a separate topic, but the most atmospheric _place_ I've ever been in was my childhood home (though I returned and lived there well into adulthood). It was the only place where I felt God's presence, so to speak.
