evil-pineapples wrote:Giorgio, I thank you for writing a thoughtful response to my criticism. I appreciate your candor in discussing this topic as well as your willingness to explain your reasoning, which you certainly did not have to do. You raised many good points and I think I understand your decision to continue shooting more clearly than I did before. So I do appreciate that, and I wanted to start my post by saying that to you clearly.
I still do not agree with your reasoning. I think all producers should strive to wait a couple weeks after restrictions are lifted to see whether the situation cools off or gets worse again. That would also avoid any possibility of performers (and crew) being exposed to the virus during the critical two-week "buffer period" immediately following the removal of restrictions, during which time the true spread of the virus is unknown, and the possibility for a second wave still remains. Remember, this virus has an unusually long incubation period. If another wave forms, you likely won't know until it's already too late.
However, the choice is down to you. If you feel that the risk is low enough, and your government has not restricted the operation of your business, then practically speaking, nothing can stop you from shooting during this time. At the end of the day, you are held responsibility for yourself and the people who work for you, and the judgments you make that could impact their livelihood.
So, I do still disagree... but I disagree respectfully.
What you say makes sense now (to you), because probably in your country you are still long behind our point (and the point in general).
The point is we need to coexist with covid on long term and we need to start to understand the sooner is possible how to do it.
We are not talking about the full production, but more about wandering shootings, as you know very well, czech republic talent pool is not enough to sustain any serious production.
But borders are opening here, there are some rules we need to study and eventually apply to import performers (this depends also from situation on other countries)
We are learning what to do, because it's time to do it.
I want to write you this.
Lions kill to eat, but legends used to say that lions drive all the animals of the savannah away from the danger when there it seams there is no way out.
Only dogs do not follow and bark at the fire.
This is what is happening now.
In the last months, countless company popped out with many different solution to help performers to make money. As you can also see on pornbox also, performers have now the possibility to release their own content and get a cut. In most of the cases is a cut where the owner of the website does not have any profit or a minimal profit.
Company that already provided a platform for the performer to publish content (most in USA), increased the revenue of the performers or did donations to associations that distribute the money to unlucky performers.
Personally I am purchasing almost any content I get at GGL, even knowing Im not going to make money, but its worth for us to work for nothing and keep performers and directors surviving, than just shut down and have people risking more to make money in other ways
Because when people get desperate (I see this in Italy), they just make terrible choices.
The industry is not stopping, for the sake of most of performers that are depending from regular incoming.
The solution to a long stop is to keep the performers to make enough money at least to pay their bills and then bring them back on the stage as soon as there is the possibility to do it.
Everyone knows many performers are not shooting only with people of their household as suggested, but we believe they do it with a enough common sense and precautions, as they are trained from years dealing with STD.
In fact, serious companies are committed to maintaining performers making money, help them tu survive, also if it means to turn on the other side and after make a call to encourage pride (I did it personally).
But we need to have trust in performers, performers are the core of our industry and they deserve we respect their choices, this is why is well known people is shooting, but only dogs are barking.
The industry Lions are all working in one direction, to help its members. Who doesnt do it belongs to few groups:
- people that do not have the money/technology to do it
- people that do not care
- people that try to use covid to pursue a personal interest, demonstrating once again to the whole industry the reason why no one respect them
We know how it is for the dogs in the savana, they are just scavengers that wish to party on the corps of the lions.
Even if so will happen (in the remote dreams of someone), lions will remain lions and dogs keep being dogs
