Persistent, annoying sound glitches

Postby August » Sat Jul 19, 2014 2:12 pm

I download all videos I purchase on LP onto my hard drive for watching at my leisure. In each case, I download the file under Full Video (mp4 vga) rather than Full Video (mp4 720p) because it's a more manageable size (I can only use so much bandwidth a month).

However, for a long time now every video I download has sound issues. Every few minutes the audio cuts out and 'crackles' before returning to normal. It's really distracting. Just to give an example, in Monster_Gapes_scene_1527 alone I marked down where I noticed such glitches occur:

0:24
2:03
5:56
7:50
8:52
11:18
12:25
15:37

Well, you get the idea. And it's across a huge range of the videos I've downloaded. Is this seriously just me? Or is it a well-known "feature"?

I tried to stream the 720p version of that scene to see if it was present there as well, but LP's streaming service is unbelievably slow for me, so I only checked the 0:24 mark, and there is no glitching. It seems like it's an encoding problem with that particular quality video.

Can support reproduce this, and if so, ensure that this won't happen in subsequent videos?

I'll have content management check the scene you mentioned and will get back to you.

We tried to reproduce this error, but we couldn't so far. Please PM me your LP username, we'll download the scene using your account to check again.

I have this same issue with all videos I download.. At first I thought it was my sound card or speakers, but other videos from other sources dont have it. Just my LP videos.

I have also experienced these glitches in a lot of videos and I only download in 720p. It only happens when I use VLC player for some reason. I don't get any glitching when I use Media Play Classic or Windows Media Player. This is strange cause VLC is normally faultless with video files from other sources.

Yeah, there are at least 1 or 2 sound distortions in every scene, some have more, some less.

This actually appears to be the answer. I've come to the same conclusion myself; running the videos in Windows Media Player rather than my favorite VLC did not reproduce the issues. A Google search reveals this is a problem associated with VLC media player: https://www.google.com.au/?gfe_rd=cr&ei ... g&safe=off

For those here who have reported the same problem, I'm interested to know if you use VLC too, and if the problem persists if you switch to something like Windows Media Player. At any rate I apologize that the issue appears to come from my end rather than LP's. It's a damn shame VLC has this problem though, as it's everything I could ask for in a video player.
