Our world (at least the Western part of it) is ending. There is no real future for any of us, and much less for our future generations. So, it does not make sense to keep fighting "windmills" made of "imaginary enemies" when the problem is your outdated business model and you have something you can sell, make big bucks and then ride into the sunset with bags of gold to enjoy your last days in this Earth before all goes kaboom.

Thanks. I think the key reason for this view and possible reality is our lack of participation in community.
In my city, they planned to widen a main road to fit a Light Rail Transit in the middle. This would have required removing two no-name woodlots that had many old-growth trees.
No one paid them much notice as they were not even considered parks, just lying fallow, with no official paths to them.
There were very few wooded areas left and I felt we needed to preserve some of the original character of the neighborhood.

I spent several hours writing and editing my input regarding this issue as a concerned citizen. I wanted it to be a quality report.
They did ask for input from the community but I figured it was only a gesture and that you cannot fight City Hall.

Much to my surprise, my report appeared to be pivotal in the decision to build instead a subway underground and preserve the two woodlots.
In their discussion of their final decision, they began with a discussion of the preservation of the two woodlots.

Had I not taken a chance, they would be gone.
