It's not childish but fundamentally we're approaching this from different perspectives, I very much ground this stance in accepting as correct the theory of imperialism as expounded upon by Lenin while yours is predicated upon a liberal approach.

I also don't hold that it's either the individual vices of leaders or whether a state is organised democratically that determine their character as imperialist, neither is it their individual foreign policies at any given time that determine this character. There are certain objective phenomena that inevitably cause states to act the way Russia is acting right now, as such it is futile to choose the supposed "lesser evil" at any given time.

Who determines what is good or bad? There are only interests of states and they out of necessity have to ensure a smooth functioning of the process of capital accumulation, not because they're evil but because they're forced to in order to survive, grow and reproduce themselves and then you have people who either out of necessity or lack of choice (since they depend on the survival of the state on a daily level right now, which is by no means something that is transhistorically immutable, but a reality they have to deal with) or out of genuine ideological conviction defend this state, either militarily or politically.

Now on a fundamental level, this doesn't justify the existence of the state as such, since these circumstances were born out of the monopoly of power the state itself already exerts a priori and which does not in and of itself prove the impossibility for alternate forms of social organisation but only represents current relations of power and how they manifest themselves.

On a fundamental level, it makes no difference whether I am ruled over Russian or Ukrainian oppressors, certainly I am not denying there is some qualitative difference on a daily level as it concerns the intensity of said oppression, but it's not really enough to justify dying for one state over the other and if push came to shove even emigration would be the better option in the end.
