Best Hardware Setup to watch the legalporno 4K Videos

Hello tech freaks out there,

what is the best hardware setup to watch the lp 4k videos.
I have an Imac from 2010 here (with freshly setup win10 64 bit running on it but same problem was with win7 64 bit on it before).
I download the 4k vids on a Western Digital WD20EZRZ 2 TB Drive.
It is connected with a Sharkoon SATA HDD Docking Station via a USB 2.0 connection
to the IMAC.
I play the videos with the standard Windows Media Player configuration.
But they judder, stop playing, are blurry.
I have the feeling that the used hdd is to slow.
But other, smaller (size 6 or 7 gb) 4k Video files play well from this hdd.


What technical setup do you recommend or what could i change on my configuration to get
good playback of the lp videos? (Ok a new Imac with thunderbold connection would be fine i know but
thats not what I want to do at the moment)
Or is the problem the USB 2.0 connection (to slow) for the videos!

I'm thinking that if your computer is from 2010, you probably don't have a 4K monitor.
So why even bother downloading/streaming a 4k file?

If it's playing slowly it's probably because your computer has to crunch down a 4K resolution video
down to your computer screen resolution, probably a 720p or 1080p.

IMO you don't really enjoy the 4k unless it's on a 4K TV in the 50 inches or bigger.
I would argue that there is not that much difference between a 1080p and a 4K video
if you are watching it on a 20 INCH 'ish monitor.

If you do have a 4K TV, just copy the file to a 3.0 USB and play it on the TV.
USB's are cheap. Easy solution.

Expensive solution: Get a new computer in the 1000 US dollars range or higher.

If you don't have 4K big TV, buy it instead of the new computer.
Computers have small screens, 4K doesn't make sense on a 15-inch screen, lol.

It's an 27" Imac with a 2560 x 1440 Pixel Display.

Windows 10 (via Bootcamp) is not officially supported on iMac older than 2012, so I'm not sure if you have correctly installed hardware drivers (you could use those from Windows 8.1).

The biggest problem here is probably USB 2.0, yet worse via HDD-Bay. Media player reads the file in chunks to the memory and if there's not enough read speed from HDD, then the player's buffer is emptied and you get stutters. Try to copy the movie onto iMac's system drive and play it from there.
Check your CPU usage with Task Manager as well, if it's 100% or near, it's clear your computer is on its limits, but moving from USB to internal HDD should lower CPU usage a bit.
TBH the rest of the hardware is not helpful to play 4k either, but with H.264 codec you should be able to play it fine.

Verify you have installed:
- the latest AMD graphics driver from AMD website (complete/full install)
- correctly installed all other hardware

What you can do:
- try alternative players like Media Player Classic Home Cinema, VLC, GOMPlayer
- install 3rd party codec pack (I recommend K-lite codec pack Standard)
- 8 gigs of RAM or SSD system drive (assuming you will play it from there) would help

Your first problem is using WMP instead of VLC Player! WMP suuuuuuuuucks!!

Just bought a new Dell with an NVIDIA GTX 1070Ti praphics card and a 512 SSD, 4k vids play like a charm!
