It is harder to become rich in the developed world, at least asset-rich in the western country that I am from.
I would stop kidding myself, and instead of aiming to be a billionaire, just be EXTREMELY content with being either a MILLIONAIRE or multi-millionaire.

Before you talking about stocks and shares investment, property development, or other business adventures...the first thing I would do is look at realistic cutbacks and savings.

For example, in my household, just by shopping around a bit more, looking at better deals for car insurances, putting accounts to the best/highest interest savings rates, living a much more frugal life that is well below my means...it has reaped rewards.

Another tip for those aspiring to be richer, and will consider cost cutting strategies...

Instead of spending 500 USD a month on fuel for the car, I now only spend 400 USD...
Over the course of 5 years, that is 6,000 USD which I can save...and can actually use that cash saving, and put the money to good use by putting it into higher interest accounts.

That came about with emptying my boot completely of unnecessary weight, and the backseat area, checking and pumping up my tyres to the optimum pressures.
Applying the gas pedal more gently, and accelerating more smoothly.
Also, on the highways here you can drive legally up to 78mph, but the optimum fuel efficiency speed is actually more like 58mph on my car.

I did some mathematical calculations, on a 20 mile highway stretch...driving at 78mph instead of the optimum 58mph would only save me over 5 minutes' in time, but yet uses up to 35% more fuel!

Let me share another anecdote with you, I have driven a prestige, performance car for the past 3 to 4 years.
When I first got it, and was not so smart/frugal...I was paying 2000 GBP a year for its car insurance.
Now, I am paying 600 GBP a year for the same or similar level of car insurance. That is a huge cost saving, I kick myself for not being more aware of these things in the past, and shopping around.

Yes, you could argue with 3 extra years of No Claims Bonus, the car insurance would be slightly cheaper...but then that is countered by inflation, and rising car insurance premium costs.

But, let me put this in to your perspective...
My first post on cost cutting and being much more frugal saves 20,000 USD a year. That equates to 100,000 USD over 5 years.
My second post about the more careful use of the car saves 6,000 USD over 5 years.
The third post about shopping around, being more smart with strategies to reduce the car insurance of a prestige car equates to a saving of up to 10,000 USD over 5 years.

That means over a 5 year period...It is a saving of 116,000 USD. Interest rates where I am are relatively high at the moment, and I can get an interest rate of 4.5% (ish).
When you consider these bigger picture, financial aspects...you realise that it is not necessarily classed as living like a poor person, but just being more frugal and careful with your money.
If you are more financially astute, it is much easier to reach your goal of financial freedom.

Since I was made redundant, I got myself a basic CostCo membership.
