You know there's the interesting fact that in 1982, Andy Partridge due to valium withdrawal had a panic attack on stage that traumatised him to such an extent that he thenceforth retreated to the studio environment and XTC never performed live again after that incident. They've released some of their most serious work during that studio era, but only after a going through a somewhat bumpy transitional period. Thougu I enjoy pretty much all of their output.

I remember him being interviewed by the rock press in 1981-82, & though I was only a child it was clear that this guy was way too articulate & sensitive & intelligent to play the game of pop star. I'd imagine he alienated many in rock press by not being able to play their games.

I'd like to share this, it's along the lines of Finnish freak folk, if one can even begin to categorise this type of music. I used to listen to this quite frequently close to a decade ago. Lastly, I kind of regret talking about heroin & Thin Lizzy but it's clear from the performance this poor man was reliant on something really bad for him, you can see it in his eyes, just to deliver for the mass entertainment. Sometimes it's hard enough for us to prepare for work, I can't imagine the pressures of having to deliver like this, in front of thousands of punters who don't really get the full picture. It must be awfully difficult.

I remember him not being too happy with Gary Numan back in the day for ripping off his style (which wasn't really true at all), Bowie even made a song about it called Teenage Wildlife. So him commenting on someone inspired by him let alone in a favourable way isn't always a given. But I've been a little out of the loop with all things Bowie for quite some time now. Criminally neglected listening to his back catalogue over these past years as well and may have a distorted view of what he did or didn't say in interviews, aside from the Numan thing since I am a fan of both of them.
