I suspect it's more that porn producers know that scenes with very attractive women will sell even if they aren't the greatest performers, whilst for models who are not quite so attractive they'll only get employed (at least repeatedly) if they perform well.

That has to be one of the dumbest things I've heard in a long time.

1. The majority doesn't buy porn on sites like LP/AV.
2. You have tons of websites that cater to specific niches, they wouldn't be around if they didn't sell.
3. You don't need a majority for something in porn to be successful and make a profit. It's the same with girls in real life. If you have a crush on a girl and you find out she has a shitty personality or just one that clashes with you, she will become less attractive in your eyes - this is at least my experience.
