‘We want, we need...’

Postby YumYum74 » Wed Mar 10, 2021 5:50 pm

I try to ignore all these (let’s call them) requests that start ‘WE want, WE need’, but they’re annoying as fuck so I’m gonna comment on them this once. Don’t say WE when you mean just yourself. Plus it comes across as shouting; why is it so hard to say you’d like to see more of something instead of I WANT and I NEED (you don’t need it ffs, it’s not life and death).

Who are you, why do you care? They represent common interest people, now you are speaking for yourself, which I don't want to here

The use of "we" is annoying. Or laughable, depending on your attitude to other people's pretentions of grandeur.

Why do some posters do this?

Perhaps they like to pretend to "know" what other fans want?

Perhaps they imagine their own personal opinions sound more important by pretending to represent others who (they claim) have common interests?

Perhaps some are just narcissistic asshats who like to refer to themselves in the third person?

Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed a pattern where posters who pretend to be "we", often seem to have least to say.

This is one my absolute pet hates at any time under any circumstances - not just on here. Like when some news reporter says, "Everyone is talking about Harry and Meghan" or "We're all waiting for the next chapter in the Harry and Meghan saga" - NO WE FUCKING AREN'T! Don't presume to speak on my, or anyone else's, behalf!

I personally don't care how people phrase thing, i rather look at the context and intent of the message. You got to take into consideration that sometime the person is not a native english speaker, sometime the way they say thing sound harsh and impersonal but that's not what they want.

Maybe you should try less dick pills, and more chill pils idk...

On a similar topic the one thing that annoys me from writing on a forum in general is that you have to always specify with phrases "I think", "in my personal opinion", "but that's just me", etc..

I always hate it because you are basically assuming people that read your stuff are mentally challenged and won't understand what you are saying as an opinion, but as a fact.

So writing this way using those phrases I mentioned is annoying for the writer and a direct insult to the reader.

For example:

Normally you should be able to say:

"Mr. Andersen is the best fucker on LP."

Saying an opinion that way is normal, and anyone with a brain would immediately understand that's just your opinion and that it is an opinion that comes from you because you are the one saying it.

However on an online forum that's not the case. There are always brainless people that would take that as an offence because they would take it as if you are the lord that chooses what's a fact and what's not a fact.

So they start attacking you saying that's just your opinion.

Of course it is just an opinion (this is when you want to call them brainless morons) because the person saying it is the one saying it (big DUH!).

And even if you went asking every single person about something they will all have different opinions, and even if they would all agree, it would still not be a fact.

So having to add in the sentence:

"It is my opinion that Mr. Andersen is the best fucker on LP"

It is not polite, it is plain stupid, and a massive insult because it assumes that the people reading it are morons, and that you have to clarify for them that it is not a fact and that you are the one saying it.

There are no opinions that are facts, but some people are so stupid that don't know that, it is really fucking annoying.

Sorry I got out from the topic, but this is a related note that needs to be said.

I personally try to write "I think", "it is my opinion" "I personally", etc., because I know people are morons, but it would be better if I didn't have to. It is not polite, it is just because I assume a lot of people are stupid.

But if sometimes I won't write it for some reason then it is on them for being morons, and it is not my problem.

You can even write "in fact", and it would still not be a fact, so sometimes when I'm pissed I just write "in fact" just to insult the morons, even though it is clear it is just an opinion.

It is so dumb that you can put both things together, for example:

"In fact, it is my opinion, that Kristy Black has the best ass"

Obviously that's just an opinion, but sometimes you are so pissed that you want to throw that insult in there.

And when someone else does it I don't take it as an offence because I understand people are morons and that they always have to do that for the morons out there.

------------------------------------

Changing conversation, addressing the topic at hand, to be fair, I understand what OP is saying, and I do agree is not correct to say that.

However I have to disagree that objectively speaking if someone says "we" they are more often right than wrong. At least statistically speaking.

The reason is that on any medium like a newscast, a TV show, a company service, an online website, etc., if someone says anything it means that a lot of people feel that way.

Obviously not everyone feel that way, but a lot of people are likely to share the same opinion, so statistically speaking, in terms of math, and numbers, they are accurate when they say "we", at least for a big portion of the users or viewers because most people won't voice anything, so if someone says anything it means a lot feel the same.

But I understand it is not correct to say it even if it is accurate to an extend.

I say to an extend because obviously there will always be counter opinions, as it is expected on an any medium that offers a product or a service.

And even if a big number of people feel the same way, even if a massive number of people share the same opinion, it doesn't mean it is all the people, not even the majority, often just a minority, but a big number nevertheless.

Why not just self-correct while reading a post and judging it by intention and content?
What I am more concerned about here recently is how little posters we have providing a real extra value like a screenshot or a .gif or sharing some in-depth viewer experience or nostalgia or vision for porn future. Something that goes beyond want/dont want and listening girls without context.

That superficial thing you're describing here is EXACT what is going on here. The vast majority is used to watching low quality tube crap. You simply can't expect too much from them.

I wouldn't like to see you go Eloise. I think (can I say I think? :D ) you represent a very significant ingredient to this whole forum, truth is.

They, and you, do not have the right to do or say anything on this forum. The owners of the forum are the only people with any rights in this situation - they allow you to use the forum and they can kick you out any time they want. You have no rights. Is that easy enough for you to understand? So, don't bring 'rights' into the argument.

Just keep it friendly boys.

Everybody has rights to an opinion. I would appreciate if you stand behind your word and address the issues as "I want" instead of "we". Be a man of your word, do not hide behind others if you want something.

Keep it in one thread and do not flood the forum, do not annoy other posters on purpose.
It's not that hard.

Yes Kapan, agree
The main problem is my first language is not English, not that good in English. People like me accidentally use we or do other grammar mistakes when commenting... People like me are speaking their language, they don't respect us for that.
I won't be a problem anymore. Peace...

In fairness, in academic writing, even in English, 'we' is encouraged over 'I' wen expressing view. I know because I was pushed to do so at thesis level 25 years ago. I found it a pompous means of expressing an opinion, but poster certainly has a point.

I think in fairness to OP, it was considerably the sense of demanding & entitlement that annoyed him & I agree with him on that.

I understand OP as well, I still think we is more accurate than I and more proper for making a statement in English. I know this because I still remember my English composition class in college like someone else mentioned here. They do encourage that when making a proposition.

Plus I already explained why we is more accurate, so telling people you should not use we is telling them you should not do what's proper in these situations, and that's a problem. Moderators should know we is the proper way.

Personally, I don't use we, but I'm against people not using it for English sake. That said, I do agree with Kapwn that making multiple threads should be avoided for the most part.

Right now I'm only hoping they fix that token glitch, so these things don't matter that much.
