(POLL) Lighting that you like

One more thing that is crucial for movies. Here is an example with basic light setups.
Hope it helps our great producers in mastering their experience.

Note that most mainstream producers today use B and C, because otherwise American fake boobs and cellulite asses look disgusting and scary. On the other hand, LP books a lot of young and natural European beauties, so I don't think directors should always go the high-key route.

My best bet would be A, while B and D are also OK as long as details are still visible and it's not very bright or too dark. I hate strong overexposure (julesjordan, blacked, tushy) and I can't stand blur and color filters (21sextury, some Gonzo scenes).

Best examples of what I like from LP are most of Sineplex SOS movies (RS223, RS248 etc) and GIO as long as he avoids color filters and too much light (best combo is GIO207). I also liked the idea of "darker" movies (SZ1413, 1414) but I suggest more low-key lighting instead, more shadows and contrast. It shouldn't be just dark (SZ1394 is impossible to watch).

Just my 2 cents. What do you guys think?

Option A - all day long.

I find it annoying when directors intentionally use lighting to create an atmosphere or use it as their trademark.

Greg Lansky's Blacked/Tushy/Vixen sites are great for some more tame films and used to be great with clean, white and bright environments to shoot in. Now he opts for darkened rooms with fewer lights, which just make it more difficult to see anything!

I have to say that some videos at LP can be poorly lit at times. Giorgio Grandi seems to get it right all the time in his recent scenes at least. Gonzo.com can sometimes be too bright, or at worst, overly grey with colours often washed out.

Consistency is needed.

Back in the 00s we had lower video quality but better, richer and often darker colours. And nowadays? When porn went HD we got sterile lighting and furniture everywhere, almost EVERYTHING is white. On top of that some idiots use soft lenses, filters and shallow focus which really suck.

Is that again some sort of censorship or what?

I do miss the old Seymore Butts/Euro Angels movies where they were doing nasty things in simple environments and ambient lighting that the average viewer actually lives in. I think it adds so much to immersion. Old 1-tkt scenes from LP look a bit like this, but they have some sort of filter or blur, details and colours are washed out. On the contrary, I like it crispy, clean and natural with rich colors and small details like sweat or precum visible.

Cheers,
Gold

I like that overexposure in Blacked dotcom myself - I think it's the best way to see how pretty the girl is and all the action too.
But the make-up has to be right as well. Not too lurid or garish.

Looks like there will be no candy for us, ambient light fans
Giorgio Grandi wrote:I am sorry but I am hardly going to step back. I believe DSLR color (thats how its cal this setting) can make the "gonzo" one step higher then before. IMHO porn doesnt need to look natural, but it needs to look beautiful.

Well, at least I learned that this 100% white lighting like in the B picture and in GIO226 is called 'DSLR color'

Here is one more example:

The samples are not representing nothing because this is just color correction and so far no one at LP release material with high color/light post production on all the video.

This is interesting and, for me, educational, so thanks for your examples and commentary, staygold.

Unfortunately, to my unsophisticated eyes, the lighting looks off in each of your examples. That leaves me in the position of saying, "I know what I like, but I don't know what makes it that way." Scene A looks better than the others, in terms of exposure anyway, but this looks to me like a poorly lit set, what with that big honking light visible on the left side. If I ignore the left side of each picture and look only at the right half, then A definitely looks best to me.

As for this:

Giorgio Grandi wrote:The samples are not representing nothing because this is just color correction and so far no one at LP release material with high color/light post production on all the video.

I don't completely follow what Mr. Grandi is saying here because I don't know what those terms mean, but whatever he's doing in his scenes generally works for me -- I can see what I want to see, I'm not distracted by the lighting, contrast, color saturation, or whatever, and it looks beautiful. I can't always say that about other videos here, but if the girl and the sex are transcendently hot, I can forgive quite a bit.

PS: I never find fake boobs attractive, but I recognize that tastes vary and that some porn producers want to cater, at least sometimes, to the segment of the market that prefers gigantic fake boobs.

'Poorly lit' is ok for me as long as it is natural and skin tones are not washed out with white or grey colors. On the other hand, watching artificial white clones bathing in light inside a giant florescent light box is really frustrating - and that's what we have from major gonzo producers nowadays.

I think it would be nice to have this 'color' post-production option in the pornbox player, so the original video in ambient light (A) could be turned into high color, white or whatever depending on user's taste. Basically the same thing [spam] lets us do with photo filters ;)

A, though D is passable. B and C look like fucking shit to me.

Hope this one is representative enough:

Where is a female body in natural color and where is pure white light / color filter instead of a woman?
Which scene would you rather watch (please disregard favourite girls and only consider lighting setup) ?

^For me, the scene in the middle is the worst. Far too white all round.

The two other scenes either side look good, yet I would have to say the scene on the left with the red haired girl is the winner in my view.

^But these are.

Just 2 scenes with almost (read watchable) correct exposure and ok color balance recently. 2 scenes out of 10!
I'm also looking at you, Giorgio. How could you not make the great Kira Thorn scene as nice as for example Francesca's or Rebeca's one?

I decided to stop buying any LP scenes at all until the quality is CONSISTENT! It's a good habbit to spit on PW around here but at least, he has the consistency in IQ.

^ You see that hip of Juelz? It has color in it, it actually looks "fleshy". It is like this in real life and it should be like this in the movies. As long as Sineplex keeps filming like this I don't care much about their dirty lens, compression artifacts or whatever. So for me it is 1 (one) watchable scene out if 10.

What Giorgio / Gonzo are making now is bleached and washed out nonsense. Seriously. The whole color palette, depth, shape, shadows and whatever else are literally killed with ONE SINGLE color. In case of Francesca's or Rebeca's scenes it's more like a pinkish warm filter or something Giorgio uses for post production or whatever.

Compare Rebeca's scene to how it looks in real life. You see that shape, those shadows and curves? Would you watch it if it was shot like this or you still prefer the bleached version with all those details removed and washed out?
