Some thoughts I had about Sharlotte's interview, posted here rather than in her thread so as not to distract from her focus there.
Interview with Sharlotte Thorne by dap-addict, 9./10. 4. 2021:
Q02: Before and when I moved to Prague I mainly wanted to do dancing and also mainstream filming. I did various jobs before porn, also nude photography.
I wonder if she means formally-trained professional dancing, so ballet/theatre, or less formal kinds, such as burlesque and pole dancing?
She (and Polina Ice too, I feel) have that very elegant and grounded physical poise and grace that trained dancers usually have in their movements and postures.
Her ambition to enter into mainstream cinema may yet follow. Sasha Grey is a recent exmaple of a recent successful porn-cinema crossover. A transition from an early start in adult work to a career in film/music is not rare at all.
Q03a: I am shooting porn for 6mt now. I expected bigger money to be honest and also that I will have more shootings. But a lot of productions are bothered by tattoos.
I am disappointed to hear she is not making as much as she hoped from her adult work, because she clearly has a superb 'product' (in objectifying commercial terms, eg. she is gorgeous and performs admirably at a high level). I suppose her impressions of more/less depend on how realistic her inital expectations were.
A positive development on that front (from a promotional perspective) is that in the month since her AV debut was released, her Twitter following has more than doubled, whch she should consider a very encouraging sign, and one that I presume is mirrored (or better) on her other socials.
That should (in whatever ratio, but to some degree) translate into increased interest in and support for anything she does, either with studios, her OF, or other projects of her own initiative.
Q03b: My first BGA was before Dylan.
Was that her scene for Lady Dee's Anal-Maniacs, possibly shot before her scene with Dylan, but ony released after? Or maybe it still hasn't been released yet? An interesting detail.
QO4: If an actor is a bad actor because he has wood problems, then the scene can't look so good in my opinion and then I don't feel good either.
I have my black list of actors. I don't want anything to do or work with them.
Ruthless professionalism, and reassuringly positive news for her fans to know she feels confident enough to lay down firm boundaries right from the start.
Q06: He doesn't work in porn. We only shoot together for [spam].
Haha! Translation: 'He works in *my* porn'.
But why is he being so coy? Being Sharlotte's partner is ultra-cool, working in porn is ultra-cool. Scream it from the rooftops man, you've won the lottery of life!
Q07: I like DAP more on set than DP.
Curious answer. I imagined DAP to be far more uncomfortably (potentially painful) than DP, and that notion has always been (part of) my reluctance to embrace the concept, as a porn viewer/fan.
So I wonder if that's because the angles and dynamics of DAP inevitably limit depth of penetration, whereas with DP the penetration os deeper and so more potential for pain?
Q08: Sharlotte Thorne: I don't know a lot of actors and actresses who are good at all, but I would like to direct something original and it would definitely go out into the world.
As Sharlotte moves from company to comapny getting established, I hope she is also quietly doing her fieldwork for this (compiling a list of potential performers, scenraios, directors/production comapnies) with a view to realising it as soon as she gets the chance. Though her rather vague and non-commital 'something original' tells us (teasingly) precious little about what form it might take. The mind boggles!
Maybe she could canvass opinon from her social media following about her ideas (storyboards and formats). That would be both a simple way to tease and engage her audience, to keep interest in her 'on the boil'. But also valuable practically, to market research what elements to include/exclude to maximise potential of such a venture.
Q09: Porn mainly gave me that I am no longer ashamed. I used to be ashamed a lot, now I would walk calmly naked on the street and I don't care what people say.
I love this answer, because in a couple of lines it turns on its head so many of the classic reactionary-oppressive negative stereotypes about women who choose to work in the adult industry.
It can free women from life-limiting inhibitions about expressing their desires and sexual needs; It can hugely boost their self-confidence, not only in the bedroom but in their everyday life; It can nurture a feeling of genuine empowerment, that the potential for agency and self-determination are within their control; In so many positive ways, a good experience of engagement with the industry (when they set their own limits, are treated fairly and with respect, and rewarded well) can really open women up to realising their full potential.
Q13: Real orgasms you can see only on [spam] with my BF.
Full-time pornstar, part-time diplomat!
Although, from what we learn of Sharlotte's sincerity and professionalism from this interview, probably true. Because she seems so level-headed and able to neatly compartmentalise and separate out her real-world life and her porn-world life.
But also amusingly tactful. Sincere... like the fox.
Q16: It's always boring for me if neither actor nor producer have much fun with me or the production isn't very good. I hate boredom and it annoys me when I can't choose a proper outfit or make-up. I know what suits me and what I feel good about , and when it's not my style I don't like it.
Today (meanwhile 7 days ago) for instance I was filming for Her Limit and it was my best set and best production so far: full of laughter, jokes, nice environment and atmosphere.
At LP this is missing. At LP I'm shooting a bit better in the Gonzo studio because I feel relaxed there, but Giorgio is also nice if there are nice actors. Still at GIO studio the environment is less relaxed. Giorgio helped me a lot in terms of anal and advised me how to do it; that's very nice.
But there's a lot he should change in my opinion. If you ask me, he should definitely change some actors, and also environment and atmosphere. Thank god there is an assistant who has always helped me.
A full unpacking and debate about the points Sharlotte raises here could be an entire thread in and of itself.
But while Sharlotte stays (as ever) consumately professional, repsectful and courteous in expressing her opinions about the set-up and shooting envoronment at AV, it's clear that she feels other competing studios are offering her a more positive filming experience, and one where she has more control over her image (which she clearly takes pride and pleasure in managing).
Ultimately the ideal solution to this dilemma for fans wanting to see her on this site, may be for AV to seek to attract other sites (that AV models enjoying working with more) under the AV distro umbrella.
Q18: I would like to work in porn definitely as long as possible, as long as there is work for me.
That's a really positive and promising revelation, from the perspective of a fan of her work.
And if she still feels this way after shooting a fine handful of scenes for Gonzo/GG/AV allied studios (generally viewed as some of the more demanding studio to work for in the grander scheme of the industry), then she should feel very confident that she can potentially 'springboard' from that sound portfolio of AV performances into working with any other producer and make a success of it.
Q20: I'm interested in music, art and photography. I used to keep a diary because I went through terrible things and those who haven't experienced it won't understand it. I actually want to write a book about it. And yes, I write texts on Instagram from my heart only, just of what comes to mind or I've had for some time in my head.
I really hope she does write a book. Or perhaps a volume of poetry. Or perhaps even put that poetry to music and perform solo or with a band.
Not because I want to know (in a voyeuristic way) about her past troubles. But because she seems so wise and confident beyond her years, and I'd like to know how she came to be the woman she is as we know her today. Maybe she could teach me something. Maybe she could teach us all something.
Maybe interesting to someone, or no one. But I felt like responding since Sharlotte (and DAPaddict) clearly both put a lot of effort into putting this interview together. Big thanks to them for that.
