May I ask you how long you lived in Russia and whether it was in one of the 2 big centres Piter or Moscow, netzer?
Sounds a bit like more of a province experience to me.

Would you believe I actually did live in Russia for several months in early 90's, teaching English, I was only 23. & you're right it was provincial. RE: Russia, I still have photos of me sitting around with young lads wearing gun holsters, drinking coffee / vodka etc. I'd no idea that 3-5 years later, I'd learn from letters that half of them were dead, either by car cash or the gun culture. Dreadfully sad time for these people, post-89.
