Erotic Literature

Postby mydirtydigs151 » Mon Jan 06, 2020 3:24 am

A photo may capture that perfect moment in time, but it often doesn't translate for others in the same way. We all see the same thing differently due our wants, desires, fantasies and perspective.
What is unbecoming for one, can be wondrously enchanting to an another, what is deemed glamorous and exciting, may be repulsive if context is not understood, it is not pleasing when one's understanding of a different perspective is lost or rejected.

I enjoy written erotica, it's a break for the eyes without total abstinence and I enjoy being inspired by others' favourite works.
Soft, smutty, perverse or perverted, it's all good (within what is acceptable here at LP)...
Our musings might just inspire a fellow member, model, or a Pornographer.
So this is a space to share written word, a place were we can paint our own portrait to someones else's canvas in our minds, without being contrary to what the site represents.
- even better if it was your own personal creations; expressing vulnerability is a great strength!
Perhaps it will turn out to collectively be a story of epic proportions.

“How do I look to him?" she asked herself.
She got up and brought a long mirror towards the window. She stood it on the floor against a chair. Then she sat down in front of it on the rug and, facing it, slowly opened her legs.
The sight was enchanting. The skin was flawless, the vulva, roseate and full. She thought it was like the gum plant leaf with its secret milk that the pressure of the finger could bring out, the odorous moisture that came like the moisture of the sea shells.
So was Venus born of the sea with this little kernel of salty honey in her, which only caresses could bring out of the hidden recesses of her body.”
― Anaïs Nin, Delta of Venus (1940's)

Poetic but, in my opinion, not really arousing.
Here in Sweden, men's magazines (now long gone) used to invite the readers to write about their sex experiences. Some were obviously made up but some were probably true. What they had in common was that they were not poetic but very descriptive of situations you could have encountered yourself. Some were more arousing than the photographies and I can still remember the essence of many of them.

One was about a girl rushing in panic out of a house in just a robe having set fire to her stove. A guy in the street helped her and she was so thankful that she pulled out her tampon and invited him in. I was 14 when I read it and had no idea about period sex or other sex for that matter, but I could picture it and it was great!

I think erotic literature needs to be written in a different way, depending on whether the target audience is men or women. Because men start with sexual feelings and attraction first, which motivates them to go after the lady they like and try to make friends with her. But women usually start with getting to know the guy first, and only later they might get sexual feelings going for him.

Women's way of putting sex second and getting to know first is often frustrating and hard to understand for guys. And men's way of putting sex first and getting to know second is also frustrating and hard to understand for women. These two approaches are incompatible with each other. And that's why men and women often have a lot of problems in making friends with each other.

So, an erotic story for men, that appeals to men, needs to start with sexual feelings and sex, the way porn-movies usually start. But an erotic story for women needs to start in a more round-about and romantic kind of way. Because the lady needs to get to know the guy first, before she does anything sexual with him.

I suppose, it's possible to write one chapter from the guy's point of view and another chapter from the woman's point of view. And then the rest of the story would be about their misunderstandings and their conflicts with each other that result from their different points of view.

But this would be more like a true novel, than erotic literature similar to porn. Because the purpose of such a story would be to increase understanding between men and women, rather than just to arouse lust.

Yep, took a subscription to Deeper by Kayden Cross. I understand TushyRaw but will probably struggle with Deeper.

Virtually impossible trick to pull off. Men usually can't write convincingly as women, and vice versa. Come from different planets and all that.
I guess a man/woman team could co-write something in an alternating "voice". That might work if they co-operated well?

I've read some books by Leo Tolstoy, and he managed to pull off such a trick by writing in an omniscient point of view, where he described the feelings and the motivations of both men and women. He was so good at describing different points of view that sometimes he even wrote how animals, such as dogs and horses, felt in their relationships with people. He didn't pretend to be a horse or a dog or a man or a woman. He just wrote from an omniscient point of view where everything was visible and everything was accessible, including the internal feelings of people and animals.

This kind of thing is possible in a novel, if you acknowledge that it is a story and not real life. The story-teller can tell anything and everything. There are no limitations in what you can know and what you can describe as a story-teller. You can have only artificial limitations, if you pretend that your story is real life and not a story.

Leo Tolstoy is often described as one of the greatest novelists of all time in the art world. So, if he can write like this, then it's okay for other people to write like this too.

Of course any writer can adopt any voice they want, any character or narrator. And better writers do it better.

But usually men don't understand women well enough to describe a woman's thoughts and emotions convincingly, and vice versa. Just my opinion.

I think erotic literature is a worthy endeavour. But it leaves me cold. Because I'm male. I'm a simple creature and I respond to visual stimuli.
If I see a pretty woman in town I'll notice her hair, her legs, her bum. It takes me longer to notice her eyes.

A lot of writers write about some things that they don't fully understand to begin with. They pull it off by doing a lot of research, getting expert advice, and having their manuscript checked for errors by an expert, before it's published. A male writer, describing a woman's point of view, can interview women and ask them for advice, and have them check the female part of the story for mistakes, omissions, and inaccuracies.

I suspect that this is something Leo Tolstoy might have done for his novels, where he described female points of view. Because if you read his novels, then it doesn't look like a man describing a woman's point of view. It looks like a woman might have written those points of view.

I think commercial erotic literature is written mostly by women and for women. That's why it doesn't work well for men. But it doesn't have to be this way.

I think it's possible to write so-called fan-stories about known female porn-stars, whom you and other guys can easily picture, because you've seen them in porn-movies. And you can write a kind of porn-scripts for them, where they go to make a porn-movie and do the kinds of things with studs, that you and other fans might want to see them do.

To make such fan-stories interesting, you can write about how they plan their scenes, what they talk about, and perhaps how they prepare and practice behind the scenes before they film the actual scene. And of course the filming of a scene involves a lot of takes and re-takes. It might take 4 hours of filming to make a 1-hour scene. The rest is edited out. So, you can write about the stuff that's edited out in the final version of the scene.

I think many porn-fans might find such stories interesting, especially if you do some research and get some advice from actual porn-makers and porn-stars, who know what's going on. This could actually be another way for porn-makers and porn-stars to make money, if they co-write such stories and get a part of the money from selling such stories and books. And if some of these stories become popular among porn-fans, then porn-makers might actually make them into real porn-movies and get more money this way. Because such a movie would already have a lot of its marketing done among interested porn-fans.
