I remember all these clowns going to school in mid-80's who really took themselves too seriously, but I'd no idea they were purely aping a middle-class American phenomenon promoting mediocre British bands in 'brat pack' films like St Elmo's fire & breakfast club.

40 years later, Andrew McCarthy still can't let it go:

Simple Minds, "Empires and Dance", "Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call" and (especially) "New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)" are all good albums, well worth checking out. After that, they started trying to compete with U2 and lost it.

Don't get me wrong, I think the guy was extremely gifted. It's just his clique-based movies had an unfortunate influence on a lot of adolescents that I'm only just grasping now! Its more self-realisation than anything!

This is hilarious. I'm guessing its satire based on these movies & the British pop breakthrough of that time, where just like mid-60's, anything British passed the test.

Ah, I see this band, Kamikazee sex pilots were from Norwich in England. So they could look upon this USA 'brat' phenomenon with the cynical eye we could.

Yeah, I guess we're all showing our age now! I edited original, it was a bit harsh! I guess people are entitled to be young!

On another note, I think the Japanese of today have to deal with a lot of similar shit by Westerners "appreciating" certain parts of supposedly "typical" Japanese pop-culture, including but not limited to certain kinds of music. Then again, maybe I am way off track with that assessment.
