Avanfuwet, do you like the first album with Barrett?

I remember at 16 years of age hearing 'Astromony Domine' & being blown away. Also if you listen to the background vocals, thats Richard Wright. That lazy Devon | Hereford | Cornish lispy vocal style (that was Floyd trademark) I'm sure was adopted by Dave Gilmour & not other way around. Weird since both have Estuary English speaking voices.

I think 'Animals' was the best post-Syd LP. Both 'dogs' & 'sheep' were so well developed.

Ny dad was in Bomber Command 42'-'44... & 'sheep' always puts me in mind of the dreary unglamourous deadly experiences these guys had:

From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

"The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner" is a five-line poem by Randall Jarrell published in 1945.

I know them .One of my past girl friends in my student days were a great fan of them, so i was "forced" to hear them :-) But indeed they are not in my personal top ten list .

My first Pink Floyd purchase was A Saucerful of Secrets which was only completed after Syd Barrett's departure.

I just think that (for me personally) Wish You Were Here is the best album they ever made. I enjoyed Animals but I lost interest after that.

Animals is criminally underrated. People over look it so much because of the overwhelming air play and popularity of the other big albums of the 70s. When I was a teenager in the 80s listening to rock radio stations; any Floyd they played was ALWAYS From Dark Side or the Wall and maybe, just maybe a bit of Shine on you Crazy Diamond or Wish you Were Here from that album. Nothing from Animals , ever.

Ive seen Roger Waters 3 times over the last decade and he played Sheep at one of them and it was just incredible.

Pigs let it down, I feel. The Sheep & Dogs tracks had Gilmour's melodic instinct (& Wrights arrangement & harmonic gifts) to the fore... Pigs was Waters at his weakest... self-indulgent, tuneless, etc...

Just an opinion.

But Sheep & Dogs are up there with Echoes, Breathe, Green is the colour, Time....

in my opinion..

I had never heard of Battersea before - majestic beast of a power plant, glad it can't be torn down.

Also glad it's no longer a functional power plant...gargantuan generators + assorted other machinery, and that constant 50hz hum bouncing back and forth off brick walls, under a cathedral ceiling, rattling every part of your being - I'm split between whether that would be a religious experience, or a special kind of hell

Re purposed into expensive apartments. Good that the landmark building is still part of the London skyline.
