You’re in good company here. Diablo 2 is a great game with at least one big fan here in the forums. Just watch out. It’s so addictive that you might miss out on selling your company for millions upon millions of dollars!

As for me…

I was a huge gamer all the way through college, and I was pretty eclectic with the stuff I played. I got into everything.

I enjoy the classic Nintendo staples like Mario and Donkey Kong, plus old arcade stuff from the ‘80s. When I was a kid, my dad had an Atari 7800 with ports of a lot of those games. I was big into the ‘90s Mac gaming scene, with titles like Marathon and Myth as well as MacPlay’s PC versions of Wolfenstein 3D, SimCity, Alone in the Dark, Castles: Siege and Conquest, and Star Trek: Judgment Rites among others. Later, when I was in middle school, I got really into the Halo series, and at one point I was playing every single night. I’m a big fan of the Metal Gear franchise & all of Hideo Kojima’s work as well. I never caught the GTA bug, but I did get super into the first Red Dead Redemption in college, which is made by the same developer (Rockstar).

But my favorite game series of all time has got to be Mass Effect. The original trilogy is the magnum opus of story-driven action RPGs as far as I’m concerned. It is an immersive experience from start to finish, with a story that is not just great for a video game, but great period. You do have to be a science fiction person to get into it, but it is really well-done. I highly recommend playing through all three of the games, in order (because your choices in one will change the story in the next), especially now with the remastered edition on current-gen consoles.

Truth be told, though, I don’t have much time for video games these days, and the free time I do have is better spent on other things. I still love gaming, and I’ll get back into it every now and then, but I’ve kinda moved on. At this point, I don’t even know the most recent release I played. I think it was MGSV, but I’m not sure.

Atari 7800! I think you are in rare territory to have got that. I looked it up and they only made a small number of games for it; mostly people were using their 2600 games on it.

I got my 2600 , must have been around 1981 because it was before Pac Man came to the 2600 which was a big deal when it did. I remember my most played games were the usuals, space invaders, missle command, pac man, centipede, defender, etc. I seem to remember I even liked the ET game which was historical flop. Played it a lot for years and years and then moved to the Nintendo for the rest of the 80s.

I do miss the simplicity of being a kid and teenager and playing such low graphic games on the 2600 when the imagination was needed in significant amounts to bring life to the pixels on the screen.

I played too much Super Mario and Techmo and Punch Out on the Nintendo to count!

I also had a big run with Warcraft 2 on the PC in the mid 90s. It was popular with the guys . We would carry our computers to each others home and hook them together with cables to play against one another (the old CRT's, your tower, keyboard, speakers, etc it was a hell of a job to move that shit back and forth). You could do them via modem through your phone line but there was no social aspect to that, it was more fun to crack the beers open and play.

Of course, specially with travelling with planets, its amazing, and adding online at this point plus the other updates makes it even better

Back in the late nineties I played a lot of online Medal of Honor (the original one) and Call of Duty. Feel too old for that now.

These days when I have the time I mostly play strategy games like Hearts of Iron or Europa Universalis on pc. I also have a PS4, which has seen plenty of Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

I'm a tech idiot. I played some stupid golf game on my Nokia until it died last year & it killed me to upgrade phone.

I still play minesweeper on XP to prove I'm corpus mentus.

Nothing can beat memory of 1981 as child collecting bottles for to get a 50 pence so I could play original Space Invaders.

It’s been at least a decade since I’ve even touched this thing. I’m kind of amazed that it still works, but back in the day, consoles were built to last.

The cabinets were usually very big, I mean dynamo showcase 36 inches pedestal cabinets. The whole thing was basically everyone playing king of the hill over and over again with people making lines or just standing there watching.

I remember girls would wear knee high boots with leather skirts and turtleneck tops, or UGGs with mini skirts and sweaters, that was the fashion, and guys would wear Timberland boots with cargo pants and windbreaker jackets, or just straight up Levi's or GAP denim all around with Converse shoes, also some tracksuit Tommy Hilfiger gear was seen as well. Overall long hair, beanies, and baseball hats were popular too.

The last bit of arcade culture we really saw was when Dance Dance Revolution became extremely popular, and that was it, then people started playing at home, and it just wasn't the same anymore, but it was a fun period while it lasted.

We definitely lost something as a society when arcades died out. I was born too late to have that experience, but gaming at home can be such a solitary activity. We crave that sense of gathering and community.

Absolutely, something definitely got lost. 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, those were the years I was big into that stuff.

It was funny because for guys, different types of wavy spiky hair styles were popular, so when seeing at the arcade lines, it looked as if that was part of some kind of arcade uniform, and the jackets too.
