Tonight, I just got blown away by Neil Young.
Very interested to know what other guys listening to, particularly if it has middle-eastern tonality.

I listen to a lot of indie stuff. Right now I have bands like Bloc Party, The Stills, Editors, Matt Pond PA, and Franz Ferdinand on heavy rotation. I like Radiohead in terms of the technical beauty of their work, but it's all so depressing that it's hard to listen to on a regular basis.

But I'm diverse. I listen to a lot of old late '90s house stuff too. Daft Punk, of course, but also their side projects (Roulé and Crydamoure) and other artists from that time. It just depends on my mood.

Thanks. Goodness knows, the Franz Ferdinand stuff I listened to about 13 years ago, really kicked off in mind, Iggy Pops two albums with Bowie 77' 78 - I'd imagine you'd be impressed.

What a shame we can't currently PM on site.. makes one look like attention seeker when that is really not at all the case!

Nah, this is the General Discussion forum. As far as I know, anything goes. I once started a thread about Star Wars...

If you like Daft Punk or house music, check out this classic of French house:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_nNIxfYLU4

It's "Crydamoure Waves", over an hour-long mix of dance tracks brought to you by one half of Daft Punk (the one in the photo below) & some of his friends.

I was (very briefly) a DJ about a decade ago and I featured these tracks all the time.

Thank you. I'll surely check them out - I understand they worked with Richard Barbieri of Japan. What a band Japan were.

Went to a Foo Fighters concert a few years ago, and halfway through the 2nd song something went wrong with one of their props. Dave stopped the show, apologized to the crowd, had it fixed and then started the concert from the beginning.

Guys, thanks for these amazing & original contributions to thread. You've all 3 made my day.

@sexaddict251, that Claire Wyndham song is wonderfully evocative.

@Giorgio, thanks for the Mr Crowley, I knew 'war pigs' etc but this just as good. Your daughter is displaying a prodigous musical ear! I'll bet this is about Aleister Crowley? Superb intro on organ.

@Spiny78... you throw in Scalatti amongst the excellent prog-rock mentions... I hope its Domenico Scarlatti, the wonderful Baroque composer born same year as Bach & Handel (I think), yet unfairly in their shadow:

Glad to see classical music making it's entry on LP Forum. I'm not a specialist, but it's basically the only genre I do listen to on a regular basis (with a few exceptions of particular songs).

Indeed, Spiny78 is likely to mean Domenico Scarlatti but he could also mean his father Alessandro (less "known" and opera-focused composer but still an important baroque musician).

That being said, as a lot of our favourite ladies come from Eastern Europe, let me share with You a couple of my very favourite classical pieces by Eastern-European composers :

Waltz no 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich [RUS] (my very favourite musician of all time, nota bene of Polish origin - his grandfather had been expellend on Siberia after the 1863 Uprising): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOK8Jb76ibc&ab_channel=VidMak

Prelude op. 4 no 1 by Levko Revutsky [UKR] (eminent Ukrainian composer of XX century): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAgFnj4wa7Y&ab_channel=TatianaPrimakKhoury

Athletic March by Serguei Prokofiev [RUS] (hilarious, not at all "classical" march by eminent Russian/Soviet composer) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjVG_edpZCc&ab_channel=TheMarineBandofTheRoyalNetherlandsNavy-Topic

Nocturne from Six Horn quartets by Nikolai Tcherepnin [RUS] (was performed at my request on my father's funeral) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rHgT0jWHU8&ab_channel=curioCities

Humoresque by Antonin Dvorak [CZE] (very famous classical piece by Antonin Dvorak, inspired by Scottish national dances) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LR9msTsmpZs&ab_channel=Andrius

Thanks for commenting on music, I'll answer you here. Giorgio has several times been kind enough to comment positively on my idiosyncratic threads, so I've learnt to not want 'last word', 'cos it might prevent people from viewing. But

1) thanks for your great post

2) what a great guy Giorgio basically is. The guy has Soul.
