I know its mad stuff, but McCartneys mothers side is relation to me.

And yes, sometimes you see the family face come through.

I remember a girl, 30 years ago, at university, looked like Jane Asher, just admiring glances - nothing more:

looking at this video I today, picture us together.

I know its sad & pathetic...

But there you go.

Bit tipsy when I said that... DISTANT relation... I'm not his second cousin or anything...

But you still see before open borders etc features belonging to geographical areas due to shared ancestors... for the most part its charming.

Cruyff & Rensenbrink, two great Dutch 1970's footballers show-point this so well..

You can even see it sort of, with Rory McIlroy & McCartney, though McCartney was far better looking, I think (though not in the picture I upload, which is merely chosen to highlight the similarity). Both from just under border in Ireland. If Rory hadn't made it in golf no way would he have had the babes he had, but I don't think he ever will have to understand this:

Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life - YouTube

Their lyrics could be pretentious or naive, but I don't think anyone can deny the power of this song:

Glagolitic Mass by Leoš Janáček.

I'm atheist, but when You are aware of the fact that :

1) this Janáček's oeuvre was rather intendent as a manifestation of Slavic identity than as a liturgial piece ;

2) Janáček composed much of his late output inspired by his platonical love for a young woman named Kamila Stösslová.

You can enjoy the piece even without being a religous person.

Probably, the original single, the simplest & best rock song I've ever heard.

"Bloodhound Gang may have built its reputation on potty-mouthed rap-rock, but there is far more to frontman and chief songwriter Jimmy Pop’s craft than innuendo and cheap laughs. [...] But to be fair, sex sells. Bloodhound Gang has (almost) stayed relevant through two decades by catering to the public’s enduring appetite for the off-colour. Stylistically their work often takes its cue from the punchy in-your-face-ness of the Beastie Boys and the cocky, oversexed swagger of pre-1990s Chili Peppers. It is perhaps surprising that in a society often branded ‘over-sexualised’, the Gang are one of few bands to mould their entire image, and the preponderance of their artistic output, on a teenage boy-esque fascination with sex."

Sure, the humor here is sophomoric, but Jimmy Pop was a first-rate lyricist. He sure could turn a phrase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89tgpzE4qkY

I never thought I'd listen to Alice in Chains again; their glum, haunting but albeit beautiful music felt like cancer to my soul, especially because of one bad experience listening to them before wrecking my car. I swore off listening to them forever. Until I stumbled upon this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__biilM ... mw&index=1

Their appearance on MTV's Unplugged was one of the best live performances ever.

Now to more upbeat music I jam to at the gym - this song is great for workouts and imagining building up the girl to acknowledge that girl who likes you (at the gym . . .) Eminem's Guts Over Fear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AqnCSdkjQ0

I've also had No Love on repeat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KV2ssT8lzj8

Speaking of music filling my heart with joy, I was going to create a thread about this man I loved and his endearing rap, but thought it might be better suited toward a DM to netzerkaiser since I imagined he might be one of the only ones here who understands me or appreciates this "rap", heh. But a post here is a good compromise.

I discovered him on December 27th, 2021 after spending the previous two days reading the case file on my penpal's arrest that is so long it spans two PDFs. (His name isn't in the PDFs but I found a link to him rapping after googling names in the file, and finding one of his grandsons' YouTube accounts.) The first time I heard this I thought it was the worst - and the best - thing I had ever heard. It is literally my favorite video of all time; in fact, I finally bought my first speaker so I could loop this while I shower. It is the very definition of wholesomeness; like Prince Myshkin in The Idiot, John seemed like an avatar of goodness. I can tell he was a good man and a loving grandfather.

After Vietnam and 26 years of decorated service in the Air Force, John was a monitor and crossing guard at a middle school where he was well loved by students and staff. The students would flock to him as he would rap for them about doing well in school. Really. He called this rap "The Brothers in the Snow", for some reason. Your first time listening you might think him a huge dork, but loop it, and find yourself wanting to give him a huge hug, lol. His speech at his daughter's wedding was also epic, I recently memorized and recited it for my first ever YouTube video. I could go on about him forever, he was my favorite person in the world: https://streamable.com/vxk67g

I like Marvin Gaye, The Platters, et al. That was Bobby Fischer's favorite genre.

Yes, such a joyful song. Strange that the 2 best pieces on Abbey Road were Harrison songs, you might enjoy this version below for string quartet. I think its amazing:

Thanks, fascinating video. Really off the wall. Gorgeous song & performance... a comedic Borat element too.

I see a lot of Sabbath in Joy Division, however different they were.

Great talking to you man, & thanks.

Not to clutter up this thread too much but there's an assortment of some stuff I'd been listening to over the years.

Joy Division - Transmission
https://youtube.com/watch?v=6dBt3mJtgJc
One of their more dancy numbers

Swayzak - Speedboat
https://youtube.com/watch?v=zow-zwPyL1Y
One of my favourite tech house tracks

Marquis de Sade - Wanda's Loving Boy
https://youtube.com/watch?v=l1cBD9qpp6M
French New Wave classic

CCCP Fedeli alla Linea - Mi ami
https://youtube.com/watch?v=DUIUAEM7qf0
This song only really gets going towards the second half

Mighty Baby - Egyptian Tomb
https://youtube.com/watch?v=dBguuilJCU4
Sadly forgotten psychedelic track

La Synthesis - Agraphobia
https://youtube.com/watch?v=Vh8V0b9dDF4
Spaced out and melodic techno

Гражданская оборона - Всё идёт по плану
https://youtube.com/watch?v=b_imR7mZ2-M

Pražský výběr - Hrabě X
https://youtube.com/watch?v=bNJO2h6jWQQ

Comus - Song To Comus
https://youtube.com/watch?v=FWzQYqeRPJc
Really intense folk song

The Pentangle - Light Flight
https://youtube.com/watch?v=JcgTa-qmvqA
Another lovely folk tune

Yeah, no doubt they were hugely influential. That song is still one of the best album openers in my opinion, Pink Flag in general being one of the all-time greats.

But aside from their classics, I remember their early 2000s stuff being real good, too. Especially Read & Burn 3 https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5 ... X2prQSwwFA

This song is a tribute to Ian Curtis
https://youtube.com/watch?v=5RsQyfJEXkM

Genesis P-Orridge who's doing vocals on this song was actually close friends with Ian Curtis.

The story goes that Gen may even have been the last to talk to Ian when the latter called him right before committing suicide.

Sadly, Gen also passed in 2020 at the age of 70.

I've never come across anyone here with the musical knowledge you have. I've listened to some of Joy Divisions early stuff, & its actually embarrassing, Curtis had this high unremarkable voice. I'm thinking Martin Hannett was some kind of genius.

Their early Warsaw stuff is really quite hit and miss. There's no denying that Hannett was crucial in engineering their later sound and turn them into a cohesive unit way that enabled them to become something more than just another run-of-the-mill punk band.

Though it's also important to remember he achieved much of this by being a domineering madman on top of everything.

Listening to some good old 80s synthpop.

This Scottish band managed to put out a few singles, some of which became cult favourites in some clubs at the time and finally one album, they dissolved shortly after that

Secession - The Magician

Secession - Touch part 3

Really worth a listen if you enjoy this kind of music
