Well, this theory seems to make sense to me. The hitch-hiking scenes are filmed outdoors and involve exposure to the audience (drivers passing on the road). Did you realize that that kind of scene is filmed in multiple takes? Many minutes or even hours were edited. It is possible that Kitty spent a few hours on the side of the road until the process was completed. Did the police show up? I don't know. However, it makes us think.
