Does that "whatever it is---guilt? remorse? regret?" apply to females AND males, or solely to the girls? And what about mainstream movie and TV actors, do you feel the same, or is that hesitation to watch reserved for porn? And does that make any sense at all?
I ask out of curiosity because when this topic came up and I first thought of it, I realized I felt a bit of guilt(?) watching porn of a dead porn actress. Then I realized that, for me, only applied to actresses and not actors. Then I thought, why should I feel that way for porn and not classic movies? Why wouldn't it apply to a Burt Lancaster or Bette Davis, or The Sopranos with James Gandolfini, Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy? TBC, for me it only applied to the actresses in porn, and looking at the question more globally, it really didn't make sense, unless I have some deep seated guilt about watching porn at all, and that opens more questions about myself than anything else.
Thoughts?
I agree Otto. When people give that private space of themselves, it deserves respect if not veneration.
Its a great point, & Thank you for making it.
I thought about it, & with relating to actors | actresses... its not the same thing... mostly 'heroes' & 'heroines' play heroic roles that they long for to be their legacy.
An interesting exception comes to mind. John Cazale, who was by no means an unattractive man, as in 'dog day afternoon' as Pacino's tragi-comic lover... allowed himself to play a wretched pathetic creature in the 'deer hunter', the total loser to De Niros alpha-male & Walkens star-crossed angel. The poor man looked as he was, in last days of terminal cancer.
I feel bad watching this brave soul play a pathetic loser in this movie.
RE: male porn stars who did themselves in, its difficult to feel anything except, 'you live by the sword, you die by it'. Most of them played the
humiliator to the humiliated female porn stars... & though one is sorry for the mental anguish they would have felt in finding the lifestyle ultimately unsatisfying to their souls, you have to remember at first the life of a male porn star has always had more social respect than a female... if you think of it, though its the ladies we come to see, at any time from 1995 - 2015 (things have shhok up since, big time), there were rarely more than 20 alpha-males on the go in Euro scene, though far more for the States (for whatever reason, at a given time). I've kind of walked myself into a cul-de-sac here because the only male porn-suicides I can think of were US side.
But people like Castel, Holmes, Baillat, Roccaforte, Perry, Lenghin, Malone, Kesseff, Galanti, Rosenburg, Ian Scott... all alive as far as I know... these guys sure had their pie & ate it. Indeed, I see Castel, Holmes, Roccaforte, Perry, Lenghin, Ian Scott, Baillat as lucky lucky men employed at a time, almost as salmon poachers at the only salmon weir for the entirety of Mittel-Europa's talents for a good 10 years at least... '95-'05. Lucky men, if you like.
