Saint Petersburg did seem to be the new Prague or Budapest until the industry was pushed out.

The russian beauty- era in porn (approx 2008-2014) is something i really miss.
But i think the "banning of porn" by Putin is a secoundary factor. This is more about how the business is runned. There are still plenty of russian, ukranian beauties but most of them only do soft (for Metart, Beauty Angels, Teenporn Storage and similar sites). For some reasons it is more financially beneficial to import girls from the US in LP. Which doesn`t make any freaking sense at all. But as i said; It is the business that made it this way. 98 percent of all new teenage girls in porn are from the USA. This will hopefully change soon again because i prefere girls from east europe.

1- You have to get a visa for Russian to come to the EU
2- You have to cover more expenses (flight, hotel etc)
way harder to take a chance on a newbie that could simply not show up, not perform or use the visa to do toursim

As far as the economic crisis..well Russian rouble is lower now than during those great years you are refering too and many many russian cities outside the Big two (and even in those really) have a fair amount of poverty, there should be no shortage of girls
So I do think the new regulation has a lot to do with the current situation.

You forget that when the economy is good, prostitution is much better money than porn. I remember driving from Germany through the former Czechoslovakia, just after the fall of the former Soviet Union. There was a stretch of E50 that was packed with prostitutes. Drop dead gorgeous, university educated, multilingual speaking women. I bullshit you not.

Switching to poorer post-USSR places with visa-free regime for EU trips is a good option.
Baltic are too small basically, only Latvia has a decent Russian female 18-30yo. population.
