Well, for Giorgio Grandi there were a plethora of reasons. Many of which he has mentioned himself.

He didn't see any potential to further grow.

He wanted to quit producing porn before turning 50 and to this end he had already tried to find other business opportunities outside of porn to explore.

There was no profitability problem, but rather the problem was to be found in new business models such as OF chipping away at the pool of potential new models.

Because Giorgio Grandi has been nothing but blunt and honest and isn't known to fabricate fantastical stories to the end of serving his image. He was one of the few producers who would always state openly that porn is first and foremost about what sells best whereas many others would have gone on and prop up a smoke screen about artistic integrity and the likes.
