I'm coming up with a list, but it'll take me time, in no particular order.

1. Captain Beefheart & his magic band: Safe as milk (1967)
2. Love: Forever changes (1967)
3. Big Star: Radio city (1973)

One of great album covers for sure, very Stephen King 'The Langoliers'

Avanfuwet, do you like the first album with Barrett?

I remember at 16 years of age hearing 'Astromony Domine' & being blown away. Also if you listen to the background vocals, thats Richard Wright. That lazy Devon | Hereford | Cornish lispy vocal style (that was Floyd trademark) I'm sure was adopted by Dave Gilmour & not other way around. Weird since both have Estuary English speaking voices.

I think 'Animals' was the best post-Syd LP. Both 'dogs' & 'sheep' were so well developed.

Ny dad was in Bomber Command 42'-'44... & 'sheep' always puts me in mind of the dreary unglamourous deadly experiences these guys had:

From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

"The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner" is a five-line poem by Randall Jarrell published in 1945.

Hopelessly passing your time in the grassland away
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
You better watch out There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen
Things are not what they seem
What do you get for pretending the danger's not real
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel
What a surprise
The look of terminal shock in your eyes
Now things are really what they seem
No, this is no bad dream

RAF 55,000 deaths
USAAF something similar
German women OAP's & kids: about 600,000
German fighters - I don't know.

All victims of Hitlers lunacy.

You're a prog-rock man!

Ian Anderson had such humanity. I remember long work drives at night to my next BnB, along the glorious Scottish west coast around 2005 - 2006 blasting this out all alone for miles... just me & Jethro Tull, in my Subaru Imprezza, from one next mornings veterinary job to another... & crazy bends. I'm still here Thank God.

Jethro Tull - Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die

So the old rocker gets out his bike
To make a ton before he takes his leave
Up on the A1 by Scotch Corner
Just like it used to be
And as he flies, tears in his eyes
His wind-whipped words echo the final take
And he hits the trunk road doing around a hundred and twenty
With no room left to brake
And he was too old to rock and roll
And he was too young to die

Sorry, Netzer I missed your reply. I was distracted by outrage about price increases.

My first Pink Floyd purchase was A Saucerful of Secrets which was only completed after Syd Barrett's departure.

I just think that (for me personally) Wish You Were Here is the best album they ever made. I enjoyed Animals but I lost interest after that.

Animals is criminally underrated. People over look it so much because of the overwhelming air play and popularity of the other big albums of the 70s. When I was a teenager in the 80s listening to rock radio stations; any Floyd they played was ALWAYS From Dark Side or the Wall and maybe, just maybe a bit of Shine on you Crazy Diamond or Wish you Were Here from that album. Nothing from Animals , ever.

Ive seen Roger Waters 3 times over the last decade and he played Sheep at one of them and it was just incredible.

Pigs let it down, I feel. The Sheep & Dogs tracks had Gilmour's melodic instinct (& Wrights arrangement & harmonic gifts) to the fore... Pigs was Waters at his weakest... self-indulgent, tuneless, etc...

Just an opinion.

But Sheep & Dogs are up there with Echoes, Breathe, Green is the colour, Time....

in my opinion..

So beautiful. Thanks Yumyum. London is, London's river banks, are most amazing place I ever trekked, from Handel to Suede...

Joseph Conrad describing the Thames in Heart of Darkness

‘Forthwith a change came over the waters, and the serenity became less brilliant but more profound. The old river in its broad reach rested unruffled at the decline of the day, after ages of good service done to the race that peopled its banks, spread out in the tranquil dignity of a waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the earth. We looked at the venerable stream not in the vivid flush of a short day that comes and departs for ever, but in the august light of abiding memories. And indeed nothing is easier for a man who has, as the phrase goes, ‘followed the sea’ with reverence and affection, than to evoke the great spirit of the past upon the lower reaches of the Thames.’

I had never heard of Battersea before - majestic beast of a power plant, glad it can't be torn down.

Also glad it's no longer a functional power plant...gargantuan generators + assorted other machinery, and that constant 50hz hum bouncing back and forth off brick walls, under a cathedral ceiling, rattling every part of your being - I'm split between whether that would be a religious experience, or a special kind of hell

Re purposed into expensive apartments. Good that the landmark building is still part of the London skyline.

I think she posted on that in her social media. But anyway she's one of those girls talking about rock music and/or wearing rock t-shirts during porn sex or BTS. There are not so many of them, especially Russians porn girls.

Gang of Four, great pick! Love them to death myself.

Love will get you like a case of anthrax, and that's something I don't wanna catch.

One of their more dissonant tracks on that LP for sure, but it's just an iconic closer to that great album.
