I agree with a lot of this, though I think LP usually gets it right, which is why I'm here. But it is a tricky line to walk.

I think a lot of it is to do with where the viewer directs your identification with the performers, or where you are identifying if the the direction is ambiguous.

If viewers are identifying with the female performer (or female and male performers) I think that keeps things more balanced. Because if you notice she is not happy or struggling and clearly out of her comfort zone, if you are a reasonable and human kind of person, you won't feel at all comfortable watching that. You won't be interested in seeing more of those scenes and it may well put you off the studio or male performers for good.

But if the viewer is only identifying with the male performers degrading and humiliating a female performer, and are disregarding entirely identification with her experience, that (my opinion) is where things can get ugly and dehumanizing.

Obviously some female performers are into being degraded, and all power to them. I would never suggest there is anything unnatural or unacceptable about being into that. Desire takes many forms. But we all know there is a line they lay down when committing to those kind of scenes, and we all have a responsibility to be sensitive to it, at all times. As participants obviously (if we are so lucky) but also as viewers.

Those men who want humiliating and degrading consensual scenes can also be reasonable and humane people. I'm not suggesting otherwise. Again, desire takes many forms.
